It takes a certain kind of person to find beauty in an old barn. While many look at rustic old barns as junk and think they should be torn down, I look at them and see beauty and history of years gone by. Old weathered barns are being replaced by current aluminum pole barns. These buildings just don’t hold the charm of the antique barns. They just don’t hold the stories the others can; like where the wood is worn down because that is where Bessy the Cow scratched her back or where the horse chewed on the wooden post. To me the weathered wood shows character, almost like the wrinkles in an old face.

I love to photograph barns to keep them alive. That way, even if they are torn down, I still have a memory and they still have a life if only to hang in a frame on the wall. At least they will hang there proudly and with dignity!
